2. Do You Have an Invention?
According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office an invention is “any art or process (way of doing or making things), machine, manufacture, design, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof, or any variety of plant, which is or may be patentable under the patent laws of the United States.”
Invent: Once the best ideas have been reduced into an effective solution and details have been formulated, then instructions are derived so that someone with the know-how can create or build the invention and observe its benefits. We believe that part of our role as consultants is to further enhance your idea by either generating a functional design and/or making suggestions for improvements. The improvements we suggest are often documented with design examples or manufactured “embodiments.”
As a general rule, an invention is strengthened when additional methods are presented by which the invention can be realized. The higher the number of variations that accompany an invention, the stronger the patent will be when granted. Should EfO Design uncover any new concepts, or improve/expand upon the original claim, we typically assign I.P. ownership and control back to you, our client.
